Sustainable packaging is one of the most tangible ways to show your commitment to the future of our planet. But how do you package in a sustainable way? What should you pay attention to? And above all, what is the best way to go about it? We would like to help you on your way.
Towards the new normal: healthier and more sustainable
Since the end of the covid crisis, sustainability is once again at the top of the priority list.
With manufacturers and retailers in the driving seat, numerous innovations are appearing on the market, but pressure from environmental organisations and regulations is also making itself clearly felt. So there is no more time to waste. Those who want to contribute to a healthy planet must also do their part to make it more sustainable.
#ULMAweCare:sustainable thanks to eco-friendly technologies and materials.
ULMA Packaging is naturally aware of the increasing use of plastic over the past 50 years, and the undeniable impact plastic waste has on the environment. In fact, experts predict a doubling of plastic packaging use in the next 20 years. Sustainability efforts are therefore crucial to meet this increase responsibly while reducing environmental impact.
Our society has long been anchored in a waste-generating linear production and consumption model. In the future, this model will have to make way for a circular economy model, in which waste is a reusable raw material. ULMA Packaging concurs with this change of direction, and is also fully aware of its position of responsibility in the sector.
To ensure that its contribution to society goes beyond mere regulatory recommendations, ULMA Packaging wants to become an inspiration to its customers. This is why the #ULMAweCare project was launched a few years ago. #ULMAweCare is an ambitious sustainability plan and includes several research and development areas where innovation in sustainable designs and applications is pursued across ULMA’s range of packaging machines. ULMA Packaging Technological Centre has a team of more than 50 engineers working on a range of technologies and applications where improving sustainability through innovation is key.
The challenge: ‘Reducing the impact of the linear economy by reducing the overall impact of plastic packaging, ensuring food preservation and avoiding food waste.’
Sustainable packaging in 3 steps
1. Choice of material
Recyclable packaging made of paper fibres or packaging based on mono-materials or with high recyclability: the right choice is made at source. The whole chain will benefit.
2. Quantity
Limit the quantity of packaging to the absolute minimum and make smart choices in production to avoid residual waste.
3. Technology
Investing in technology is the way to remain profitable while offering customers the very best in sustainable packaging. ULMA PAPER FLOW and BETTER-SEALTM are examples of this.
PAPER FLOW
The search for alternatives to plastic in packaging has been a top priority for manufacturers and distributors in recent years. ULMA Packaging recently started offering the option of using paper film in flowpack.
BETTER-SEAL™
ULMA machines are now equipped with BETTER-SEAL™, an innovative system that improves the sealing of mono-material packaging. Mono material is more recyclable, and therefore a more sustainable solution….
